A Lousy Problem

As a school nurse, there are different issues I deal with every year. The issue this year has been head lice. While not life threatening, these small creatures are enough to send the calmest parent over the hills! It has been weeks since we had our last case and I was finally breathing a sigh of relief....guess what? They're back.....UGH. Only nine weeks left to this school year. Cannot come fast enough for me....I would give anything for a simple case of strep throat.

Now I need to go take a shower because I am itching all over :)

  1. When every child in The Bird's first-grade class had lice, I thought I would have a breakdown. We miraculously escaped...do you think the eucalyptus oil on the neck helps?

  2. We have all kinds of stories about homeopathic remedies. Not sure if anything works better than anything else. My latest success has been buying a cheap flat iron and frying the H*** out the little buggers...kind of like a bug zapper for the hair.

  3. Ewwww. Makes you glad that Jr. Birdman has realllllly short hair!

I thought your school district was immune to such things. Guess it proves that money can't buy a lice free environment!

  4. No, money does not buy a lice free environment! Those bugs are equal opportunity inhabiters.

  5. The actually like clean heads more than dirty ones so we are bigger targets!

  6. This story brings back some horrible memories! Ha! One of my grand daughters had a problem with lice, years ago when she was in 2nd grade. Talk about flipping over the edge; my daughter nearly went nuts! She bought every product known to man to put on the poor child's head and all over their house, in the laundry etc. I was really happy when that dilema ended. I can't imagine going through it with all the students and parents. :-) You must have nerves of steel!
